The Golden Rule Peace Boat

Sailing for a Nuclear-Free Future

On July 16th, please join the Syracuse Peace Council, Veterans for Peace, and numerous allied organizations at the Brewerton Center for the Arts to greet the historic Golden Rule Peace Boat for a welcoming ceremony, music, games for children, food, and speakers.

Today, as humanity grapples with the twin existential threats of nuclear destruction and climate crisis, the Golden Rule serves as a powerful reminder of the potential of a small group of concerned citizens to change the course of history by bringing broader public awareness to the devastating costs of our national pursuit of military dominance.

History of the Golden Rule

“Small vessel with a big mission”

learn more about Captain Albert Bigelow and how the Golden Rule came to fruition

As part of the Great Loop Tour 2022-2023, this historic vessel left Minneapolis in September 2022, with stops at numerous spots along the way, traveling down the Mississippi River into the Gulf, around Florida, and up the East Coast and is now making its way along the New England coast. It will return to NYC in July 2023, and then sail up the Hudson River and across upstate New York via various waterways, including the Barge Canal.

The Golden Rule, a national project of Veterans For Peace (VFP), aims to advance opposition to nuclear weapons and war in a dramatic fashion. The restored Golden Rule is voyaging once more, to show that nuclear peace is both necessary and possible, and that bravery and tenacity can overcome militarism.

The Golden Rule crew spreads the word about the continuing dangers of nuclear power, and the poisoning of the air, water, and soil from the entire nuclear cycle, from uranium mining to the disposal of nuclear waste.
