We particularly appreciate the monthly and quarterly pledges so please consider becoming a SPC pledger. This stable funding is crucial to our organization’s operations and future projects. You can set up a recurring monthly donation right below online or with your financial institutions.

If you are a member of the Syracuse Cooperative Federal Credit Union, SPC’s bank, you can ask a teller to help you set up a recurring donation through an automatic transfer. Otherwise, ask your financial institution how to set up a recurring donation to Syracuse Peace Council.

A legacy donation (i.e. a bequest) is a legal gift of personal property, money, or other assets given to a person or organization through a last will and testament. A legacy donation to the Peace Council is when you designate the Peace Council as a beneficiary in your last will and testament. This can be done for other assets such as an insurance policy, annuity, retirement account, or bank account.

Legacy donations can be used as memorial gifts. Making a memorial gift in honor of someone who has passed is a great way to secure their legacy and the legacy of the Syracuse Peace Council. This can provide much needed funds for our current work and future projects.  

There is no time like the present to plan for your assets, protect your loved ones, and secure your legacy after you die. You may wish to speak to a tax advisor, financial advisor or a lawyer about planning for the future as well as the best ways to make a legacy gift.

This is a good option if you are at least 70.5 years old and want to contribute from a tax-deferred retirement account. Ask your financial professional about making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) in which a direct donation from a tax-deferred Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to our non-profit fiscal sponsor Peace Action Fund of NYS (PANYS) for the benefit of SPC while not incurring taxes. (Funds distributed directly to you from a retirement account will be taxed as income).

We appreciate direct donations to the SPC even though they not tax deductible.  This gives us the flexibility to use these funds to advocate for political action like pro-peace and social justice legislation.

Starting in 2026, if you take the standard deduction, you can deduct up to $1,000 in cash gifts to qualified charities. To make a tax deductible donation to SPC for education purposes only donate to Peace Action Fund of New York State (put “for SPC” in the memo line). Please mail the check to: Church Street Station, P.O. Since its founding in 1936, SPC has educated, agitated, and organized Central New Yorkers to pursue peace and social justice both at home and abroad. Whether standing up to war or injustice, we are immeasurably grateful to the countless Central New Yorkers who have contributed innumerable volunteer hours, financial support, and dedication over these many decades.

Recently, Trump and his MAGA coalition advanced their 2027 funding bill which allocates more than $1 trillion dollars to the Pentagon and cuts $13 billion from critical domestic programs. Internationally, the world’s superpowers continue to commit war crimes in Iran and Ukraine while arming genocides in Gaza and Sudan. Domestically, Donald Trump threatens to turn our democracy into his own AI-powered fascist fiefdom. The amount of death, destruction, and despair might feel suffocating and might even leave some feeling powerless and isolated. However, SPC is here to keep hope alive.

SPC cultivates a tight-knit community focused on securing justice, liberation, and peace through its volunteer-led committees: Beyond War and Militarism, Justice For Palestine, Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation (NOON), and Nuclear Free World.

Beyond War and Militarism educates locals and city legislators regarding how surveillance technologies and militarism negatively impact Syracuse. Beyond War and Militarism assisted in preventing the Syracuse Police Department’s drone surveillance program and flock cameras which funneled data to ICE.

Justice For Palestine instructs Syracusans about the Palestinian Liberation movement, arranges speaker events where award winning Palestinians like Mosab Abu Toha speak, and holds weekly street heat protests.

NOON teaches the community about the Onondaga Nation, supports them in their environmental and legal initiatives, and direct community events like Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Nuclear Free World informs the community about the dangers of nuclear weaponry, helps them take action, and arranges the annual Nagasaki and Hiroshima Commemoration Day Procession.

Additionally, SPC has an expansive web of connections with other social justice organizations like Urban Jobs Task Force, Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse, CNY Solidarity Coalition, Alliance For a Green Economy, Syracuse Police Accountability & Reform Coalition, among many others.

Together all these committees create a community of caring individuals who make a positive difference in their local neighborhoods, city blocks, and world at-large.

SPC is a volunteer-led organization and currently has just one paid staff who accomplishes a great deal with limited resources. While there always seems to be enough money for war, resources for peace and justice are hard won as our donors demonstrate. SPC depends almost entirely on individual donations to pay its staff a fair wage, keep the lights on, and effectively support our campaigns in the community.
