October 17 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for: Facts, Narrative, and Violence in the ICE Age with guests Austin Kocher, and Mina Aguilar |  Sat. Oct. 17| All Saints Parish Community Room | 1340 Lancaster Ave. | Syracuse, NY | Doors will open @ 6 and talk is at 7pm.

To understand how immigration authoritarianism works, we will explore the battle over shared reality, rooted in the government’s manipulation and control of data and how communities are finding creative ways to expose what agencies are actually doing so that we can respond more effectively.

Mina Aguilar is the Workers Center of CNY Director of Advocacy and Campaigns. She  is a Mexican-American who grew up in Central NY. She has deep connections with workers and families in the North Country Region. She has supported in mapping dairy farms and planning outreach efforts, leading workers in advocacy trips to Albany, facilitating workshops on organizing and gender equity, and advocating for immigrants and better farmworker conditions.

Austin Kocher is a political geographer who studies the U.S. immigration enforcement apparatus. He uses the Freedom of Information Act to turn the government’s own records into public analysis, maps, and reporting that journalists, attorneys, and advocates rely on. He writes a widely read Substack that puts complex immigration data into plain language and is a regular expert source for news outlets like NPR, The New York Times, and the Economist.
