Film Screening: Where Olive Trees Weap
September 13 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us for a screening of Where Olive Trees Weep
Friday, September 13th, 6 pm at ArtRage Gallery 505 Hawley Ave. Syracuse, NY
This powerful documentary goes behind the headlines to provide background on the current crisis in Palestine and offers a window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma and the quest for justice. We follow, among others, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. We also witness Dr. Gabor Maté offer trauma-healing work to a group of women who were tortured in Israeli prisons.
Following the film we will have a community conversation led by Jonathan Brenneman. Jonathan is a Palestinian American Christian and Co-founder of Christians for a Free Palestine. He is a graduate of the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, has worked in multiple countries doing Palestine advocacy, human rights monitoring, grassroots organizing, and challenging anti-Arab racism. Jonathan’s work connects the Palestinian decolonial struggle with those of other indigenous peoples, and challenges theologies of domination.
